19 Setting up OpenRouteService

OpenRouteService (ORS) is a powerful plugin that enables various types of analysis, including isochrones and routing. By following these instructions, you can set up ORS in QGIS. Let’s get to it!

Step 1: Login and Token Generation

If you haven’t done so already, create an account on openrouteservice.org and login. Once you’re logged in, select Standard for token type and enter a name for your token.

Step 2: Downloading the ORS Plugin

  1. Go to the “Plugins” menu.
  2. Select “Manage and Install Plugins” from the dropdown list.
  3. In the Plugins dialog box, search for “ORS Tools” using the search bar on the right-hand side.
  4. When you find “ORS Tools”, select it and click the “Install Plugin” button.
  5. QGIS will download and install the plugin for you. Once it’s finished, close the Plugin dialog box.
  6. You should now see a new toolbar called “ORS Tools” in your QGIS interface.

Step 3: Authenticating the Plugin

  1. Click on the “Settings” button on the ORS Tools toolbar.
  2. In the ORS Tools Settings dialog box, click on the “Authentication” tab.
  3. Enter your API key in the “API Key” field and add https://api.openrouteservice.org for Base URL.
